Researcher:

Discuss plan with partner (s), program team member and communication officer.

Communication:

Look for relevant media outlets and journalists.

2. Output

Communication or researcher:

Write press release. See also checklist press releases (in Dutch).

Possible situations:
  1. Press release is based on a SOMO research/activity.
    -> content is part of the research project and line with the workflow for a SOMO report/paper.
  2. Press release is a response to a current event.
    In this case: Check if content is conflicting with vision/activities of other programs or networks of SOMO.
    A company mentioned? -> yes: MT check.

3. Control and check

Researcher:

Check press release with partner(s),  relevant team members and communication officer.

(If applicable: MT member:

Check press release.)

4. Design

Communication officer:

  1. Check language.
  2. Is translation needed?
  3. Who is spokesperson/contact person for the press?
  4. When is the press release send out (in accordance with media who have the scoop)?
  5. Write Q&A if applicable.
  6. Give mediatraining to spokesperson if applicable.

5. Decision to publish

Researcher, partner and communication:

Decide together if the press release can be published.

6. External dissemination

Communication:

Send final version to media outlet (through online press tool Cision) and place it on SOMO mediachannels (website, social media).

Partner:

Place press release on own mediachannels (website, social media).

 

7. Monitor and evaluate

Communication/administration:

Register media attention in Pluriform.
